An exhibition as part of 'In Good Company' an exposition of work from emerging veteran artists throughout the month of November 2018 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Naomi Hume states, “If war ultimately defies representation, it can also be said that it requires it.”
100 Years of War, 100 Years Later. Selected artists come together to engage in meaningful dialogue, seeking a new visual language, like the artists of WWI, to communicate experiences of perpetual war. It is an existence of contradictions, fractured identities, and often emphatic anti-war responses.

Please join us as we explore the technological and cultural matrices connecting print and paper. Today’s practitioners and scholars have a rich archive of historical production methods and societal uses of art on paper to draw from in their work and research. Be it decorative, instructional, devotional, or functional artwork, we consider how this matrix of origins and innovations is retrieved, shared, and developed.

One of those opportunities can be found in participating in the meaningful experience of transforming something worn in military service into a piece of art.

FULLY STAGED PRODUCTION Jonathan Berger, composer Harriet Scott Chessman, librettist
It was nearly 50 years ago that American soldiers massacred hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese villagers at My Lai. Kronos Quartet's fully staged collaboration with composer Jonathan Berger and novelist Harriet Scott Chessman revisits the horrors of that day and its aftermath, from the perspective of the heroic helicopter pilot who tried to intervene. Berger's "richly evocative" and "hauntingly beautiful" (San Francisco Chronicle) score blends Rinde Eckert's expressive voice with string quartet augmented by traditional Vietnamese instruments played by Vân-Ành Võ, and an electronic soundscape of helicopters, voices, and snippets of American blues.
