Combat Paper Residency
Robert Possehl
Robert visited the Green Door Studio in March 2009 for a residency in paper making, working with natural fibers taken from along the Rock River in northwest Illinois. Robert pulped leaves, bark, milkweed and other natural plant fibers to create an edition of paper sheets to be used in a book about the slaughter of the Sauk and Fox tribes by the US Army and local militia in the spring of 1832. The Black Hawk war was perhaps the last attempt by eastern tribes to retain their ancestral homes, east of the Mississippi River.
He worked along side combat papermakers during his two week stay at the paper studio set up inside the Firehouse Gallery on Church Street in downtown Burlington.
Robert received his MFA in book and paper arts from Columbia College in Chicago. |
